Dendritic cell, a type of white blood cell and part of the body's innate immune system, is called an antigen presenting cell (APC) and is found in the body's tissues. They recognize and phagocytose (engulfing and destroying) pathogens. They then give the digested parts (antigens) of the phagocytosed pathogens to other immune system cells. The long projections seen on the cells' surface help them to move around the body.
